Reverberations

Reverberations
The casual words flung from our tongues
take wing and never rest.
Those words reverberate with skill
as a most unwelcomed guest.
We, heedless, toss forth hateful words
unaware of their piercing curse
and if we knew, the question is
would we still choose to disperse?
It does not matter who you are
you’ll spit out hurt filled words
the trick might be to scatter them
like huge herds of startled birds!
So I must vow to bite my tongue
and swallow where my ego talks
My sponsor told me years ago
it’s hard enough to talk the talk
and harder, still, to walk that talk.

Cautionary tale that words do matter. Thank you for this succinct reminder.
