Protectors

Protectors

Protectors

The drone visually
lifts us above the thick
overstory of a Northern woods.
From above, the trees
look like trembling masses
of joyful abundance
~ gloriously exuberant.

Impenetrable tree
hordes weave their
uppermost branches
like sacrosanct
netting, braiding
around new borne stars.
Look up through the trees.

Can you even
imagine?

There was a time
(perhaps in college)
when I had more time
(is that possible?)
and I walked at peace
among The Trees.
Silence presents as Blue.

Winds swirl and stir the
ceilinged trees ~ those
eating the sun. Those, so
beautifully equipped to
endure the assault since they
were so beautifully nourished:
they defend the heartwood.

They conspire to
protect me, as well.

So I, underneath,
barely notice the storm,
sheltered as I am by a
vast trellis of limbs, by a
sea of leaves, by those
stout columnar trunks.

I know that wind –
that shivered wind –
but I am well below.

  1. and those magnificent trees….breathing out air for all, and spreading out canopies to protect. They are givers and protectors of life, and on occasions, destroyers. Regardless, in their life and death, they feed and protect us. Glorious trees.

  2. Glorious Trees protect and give…like the best of the human race. But, decidedly, not ALL of the Human Species ~ thank you for being my very own Giving Tree, as I am yours!
