I almost became a geologist…

The Sanctity of Rocks by Barbara Helvey Hughes

I collect rocks.
Is there something
sacred in that?
Yes. I think so.

As I drive to
the gym in Boone
my Spirit finds
the wind under
Wolfstone’s wings and
I soar above
these Blue Ridges
listening to
their “£10 Float”.

Below (or out
my car window) ~
rocks. Rocks jutting
out of other
rocks escaping
Earth’s confinement.

Rocks squeeze their
way out from cracks
and crevices.
Rocks spit out, over
Time, like vexing
burrs stuck in our
Mother’s throat ~ gone,
once and for all.

Trapped and released,
half swallowed and
appearing as
impossible
angles: heaved, thrust
upward from the
bowels of her core.
Molten, hardened.

No wonder this
place has put its
mark upon my
Soul’s sanctity.
Heaven?

  1. Rocks vibrate with their own unique frequency, they are alive, they are compiled stardust. Humans and all life and matter vibrate with their own unique frequency, stardust. I wonder if those selected rocks tickle yours and yours theirs. I think it’s so…remembering
