Brevipoem by Barbara Helvey Hughes

Today I sit, here, in my study
doodle and write, chase words, get out my
college dictionary with yellowed
pages and broken spine ~ discover
subtle meanings and origins and
attempt to trace those elusive words
back home to when words possessed meaning.

Middle English pronunciations
charge my imagination and guide
me to invent new ways to use old
words ~ nouns will get acted upon and
become verbs, odd word pairings morph to
begin their lives as new expressions
so my language emerges fuller:
more.  And as they tickle or tangle
my tongue, as they tumble and stumble
out through my lips, I watch them take new
command of long ago expressives.

See how that adjective becomes a noun?
In the right (or, left) brain everything
be wilderlisciously wonderful!

Love is the language spoken here.
