On and on and on and on…

Shine on by Barbara Helvey Hughes
Those capable lanterns finally flickered out.
Even though we shout and race to
keep them lit, they bit the dust or the
dust bit them ~ either way
they snuffed and he chuffed his way
into lonely hateful hearts while we
bickered amongst ourselves, fussed and trussed
to our group and exhumed our reality, while
he fumed and paced and no one
appeared to possess the grace to pause
so we all had hissy fits and lamented the cause
and lines were drawn last night ~ forget the laws.
Wasn’t much of a fight – how could it be(?)
with us on one side and
them on the other, who can say
who won?
If we can’t work together
we die alone
the loneliness of one who
never could settle
or settle down ~
who won?
But Light shines on and on some more
and round and round the universe, it goes
and no one knows the why or when, but they
just grin because they do know, the river flows
and sunset glows to the gloaming hour
and there is power as Light draws forth
its course on elliptical wheels toward its goal
because….no one steals Light’s Soul.
