Covid – 19

Covid-19 and The Elasticity of Time by Barbara Helvey Hughes, 2020

An emotional push/pull
of budding thoughts bounce through
elastic days, hard-wired nights
where one full moon rivers
into the next argent wave:
resilience is always earned.

Have we aspired reaching any new gains
during this time, this time in between (?)
when how simple it would be to
observe and preserve moments
gifting our empathy, our
compassion, our kindnesses….

Minutes unravel, thoughts spin
untethered: whipped to an end
elasticity unwinds
what small control we might have
begins continuances
and they spin out to ether.

Seconds roar past like hostaged
screams ~ their shrill bite hunkered in
our hearts while teasing purpose
out of context to the next
day or week or month or year:
can we return to before?

Can we abscond away?
What good would it do any of us, now?
Now became irrelevant
a couple of months ago
a million forgotten thoughts
have since paved our purposes.

Time can’t reconstruct itself
unless in Einstein’s dreams ~
our disheveled nightmares
struggle to punch their way out
of the box we place them in.
The time is now: always was.

Where’s elasticity when we need it?
