Janice L. Moore was born in Canada and grew up in Maine. She graduated from Waynflete School and Sarah Lawrence College, where she focused on painting and photography. She continued her art education in France; first in Provence, then Paris. She spent the next ten years in New York City working at an art gallery, then as a graphics director in the fashion industry. In 1995 she left New York and began painting full time. She works from her studio in Freeport, Maine. Janice’s paintings are in many private and public collections including L.L. Bean, the Kemper Collection, The Gasparilla Inn, the United Missouri Bank, and the UMB Bank of Denver. We've admired Janice's works for many years, and we're excited to represent her. She infuses her Hopper-esque landscapes with intense, rich colors and there is something simple, yet exquisite, about her haunting images – lonely, yet inviting. Janice asks the viewer to take a stroll with her, off the beaten path. To me, Janice has always been the artist, who sees something intimate in what we all look at (our familiar) yet we take for granted – she expands these places we love, but at the same time, she allows us to fill-in-the-blanks. Elusive, yet contemplative: spirit-infused. There are certain artists, who exert a kind of magnetism, through their works. We’re drawn to move just a bit closer, figure out what it is that pulls us in, step out of our 'self' and into their vision. That's what I feel, when I look at Janice's paintings. Indeed, we’re happy to have Janice in our Artist Family.
