Jim Chapman studied under John Groth, of the Art Students League, as well as William Dunlap, Warren Dennis, and Noyes Long. In 1985, Chapman assisted Jeanne Claude and Christo on their Miami Surrounded Islands project. He has completed projects for the North Carolina Department of Tourism, along with several private commissions. Chapman's works can be seen in the collections of Hugh McColl, Wachovia, Raycom, Bank of America, FDIC and RJR - Nabisco. Chapman's landscapes and still life images present an intense appreciation for color, form and technique. His unique style addresses the traditional subject matter of still life and landscape, while taking inspiration from a variety of Post-Impressionist’s color theories. Jim combines his keen observation of the natural world, his appreciation of color and form with a rich texture in his paintings, creating a feast for the eyes.
