David Ruhe

David Ruhe is what I call our realist, with a magical touch. Almost every painting he has given to us for exhibition has a touch of whimsy or is infused with his unique, almost mystical, quality. David was born in Dayton, Ohio and attended University of Dayton. He is a self-taught artist of the highest caliber. He has developed a deep understanding of how to express himself, without the guidance of teachers and mentors, and that tells us David is not only very serious about his work, but also very thoughtful. And, to be capable of that expression in such a precise manner is quite wonderful. We believe he will one day find a place of honor in the American annals of great artists.

Many of David’s images evoke a smile or a moment of contemplative peace. His ability to take everyday objects, and combine them into a startling composition, often gives the viewer pause: the more we look, the more we become aware of, which we didn’t see the first time we looked! His paintings are full of surprises and wonder. We think you’ll love them and we welcome him into our gallery.
